General Introduction

We have a club apiary set up in the New Forest for our members. The apiary is managed by a lead person on the committee supported by other members of the club.

Training

All members taking the beginners or improvers course are given practical training at the apiary. The apiary allows members to get experience of handling bees, how to carry out inspections and what to do throughout the season.

Queens & Nucs

The development of the apiary has provided us with the facilities to rear local Queens and put together nucleus colonies.

These are available for new or established members to purchase at rates far below those available commercially.

Honey

Members – both new and experienced – help extract the honey from frames taken from the hives in the apiary at one of our member’s homes every season. This honey is bottled and labelled and sold at events we attend throughout the year. Members are able to sell the honey via stalls they run at other events. This helps to raise funds for the club so we can continue to run and expand the club’s apiary.
