Our Improvers course is aimed at those who have had at least one years or more experience of taking care of their own bees. and is meant as the next step in enhancing your beekeeping skills.

As it follows the BBKA Basic Assessment Syllabus it can be used as a stepping stone to taking the BBKA exam if so desired.

The syllabus can appear daunting at first glance but closer inspection will show that it merely lists the basic things which all beekeepers should know.

The course runs for four evenings in New Milton, starting Thursday 14 March 2024 at 19:30. The dates of the other Thursday evening sessions are 21 March, 11 and 18 April.

Following this course, you may wish to take the BBKA Basic Assessment. Ideally those taking it would would have managed at least one colony of bees for a minimum of 12 months.

The assessment is completely practical/oral and takes place mainly at a hive in a local apiary.

Those who wish to apply for the assessment following the course will need to contact us at training.swhbk@gmail.com. We will then forward the Application Form which will require completion and returning along with the Fee (2024 = £20) to the Area Examination Secretary. The Area Examination Secretary would then organise the assessment and contact you direct with details
