Our Taster Days are for anybody who would just like to know more about honey bees and beekeeping, as well as for those who are thinking about becoming beekeepers but are not yet sure or ready to commit to our longer Beginners Course.

We start the day indoors and explain the honey bee life cycle and how today’s beekeepers use this knowledge to manage their colonies and keep their bees healthy. This is followed by an overview of the development of beekeeping from hunter-gatherer to using modern framed hives, show the range of equipment used in our own apiaries, and give a glimpse of the work involved throughout the year.

After an informal lunch, with time to chat, we take you for a hands-on session at a nearby apiary where you will get very close to our bees under the guidance of our experienced trainers. We provide protective clothing and gloves for the apiary session, but you need to wear trousers and a long sleeved shirt or top, and bring your own pair of wellies.

Under 18s need to have a fee-paying adult with them for safety.

Get in touch via our ‘Contact us’ page for details of the next available session and the costs involved.
